Local Carer – Anonymous

I was a carer for my 83-year-old Mum for the last 3 years of her life, during the Covid years which was a real struggle. I never knew where to get help or support, I was working full time and the whole family were at home all the time!

I struggled to juggle work, family, home and my caring responsibilities and suffered my own mental health issues. Although there were 3 other adults in the house, the caring responsibilities fell on my shoulders. I couldn’t trust my husband or grown-up children to help my Mum or do things properly for her.  I didn’t even know how to define and communicate boundaries.
