Action Attainment

Getting young people back into sport

Working with local families, schools and sports organisations, Action Attainment provide fun and inclusive sessions for young people with autism, ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, social communication or sensory processing differences. By taking part in activities in an informal and supportive environment, young people can have fun and connect with their peers, reducing isolation and improving their wellbeing and self-esteem.

With funding from OneRichmond, Action Attainment were able to re-engage a group of neurodiverse children and young people who had spent months at home during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

45 children and young people from across the Richmond Borough joined the programme which included tennis, golf, football and water sports. 11 participants had an occupational therapy assessment, which allowed coaches to provide personalised support and set achievable goals. Many of the young people who took part reported feeling more confident, with some overcoming significant anxiety about trying new activities or joining group activities.

“Now I want to do more sports and join a club.”
