TAG Youth Club for Disabled Young People

Through OneRichmond providing £10,000, TAG was able to offer short breaks, day trips, and Parkour sessions for young people with additional needs and young carers.

In the course of the project, TAG provided young people with an opportunity to reconnect with their peers in person, whilst participating in fun and engaging activities within a safe and well-equipped environment.

Spurred by instructors’ encouragement, participants engaged in physical activities tailored to their individual pace and level of difficulty. This was achieved by providing enhanced support and additional equipment, to ensure that each young person could enjoy their time with TAG.

The young carers and young people with additional needs also benefited from regular short break opportunities during the summer holidays through residential weekends and day trips in a safe and caring environment. During day trips to an outdoor education centre, they took part in challenging activities including a high rope course, climbing, and abseiling.

Parents received a short break from their caring responsibilities. This enabled them to take time out and recharge while doing something for themselves.

“TAG has been our salvation over the last year but particularly the last few months. With group sessions opening up again, our daughter has multiple days to look forward to. And that really takes the stress off us as a family. No one else is providing consistent local activities for disabled young people like our daughter.

She comes home happier and is always full of what she has done, and who she has spoken to. She is proud of her achievements at TAG and for someone who was frightened to join in anything, she has come a long way thanks to the sensitive support of amazing staff. Her confidence and happiness have both benefitted from attending TAG”
